报告内容: I will describe the synthesis of monometallic gold nanocrystals and gold-based multimetallic nanocrystals, including gold nanospheres, nanorods, nanobipyramids, nanoplates, silver nanorods, and
gold@M (M = silver, palladium, platinum) nanostructures. These nanocrystals are in high purity and high uniformity. Their sizes can be synthetically controlled over wide size ranges. As a result, their plasmon energies can be synthetically varied. Each type of metal nanocrystals are synthesized to achieve desired particular plasmonic and other physical/chemical properties. Owing to their extraordinary plasmonic properties, these metal nanocrystals have a myriad of potential applications in optics, spectroscopy, and biotechnology. I will present one example of plasmon-based color switching, which is realized by coating polyaniline onto gold nanocrystals. Up to date, most metal nanostructures possess only electric plasmon resonances, which are dominated by electric dipole modes. However, magnetic resonances are also often needed for realizing better control on electromagnetic signals. In this regards, we have successfully synthesized colloidal gold nanocups and studied their plasmonic properties. They display orientation-dependent plasmonic properties when deposited on flat substrates. I will finally discuss our recent study on the electromagnetic resonances in single-crystalline cuprous oxide nanospheres and the resultant forward light scattering properties. This represents a new direction in achieving strong electromagnetic resonances in nanomaterials beyond noble metal nanostructures.

报告人简介:Prof. Wang received BS degree in inorganic chemistry in 1993 from University of Science and Technology of China, MS degree in inorganic chemistry in 1996 from Peking University, and PhD degree in physical chemistry in 2002 from Harvard University. He did postdoctoral study at University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2005 he became an assistant professor in Department of Physics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. In 2011 and 2015 he was promoted to associate and full professor, respectively. His current research focuses on plasmonic and photocatalytic properties of metal nanostructures. Prof. Wang has authored/co-authored 146 publications, with a total citation number of 14630 and an h-index of 55. More information can be found on the web at
